Get ready for some football sewing! Whether you're cheering for your favorite college team, hometown team, or just love a great football-themed quilt, this is a fun project to customize in your team colors.
Beehive Quilt Shop has a great selection of collegiate-inspired fabrics and colors to help you create just about any touchdown-worthy theme!
We also have what we think is the ideal football brown: N4 Dimples by Andover Fabrics.
Kit & Pattern Information
Beehive has put together a special fabric kit with the Throw Size quantity needed for the footballs and laces.
Pattern is sold separately. We know many of you already have this fun pattern tucked away in your pattern stash!
Your Teachers
Class is taught by Desiree, with Annarose as her sidekick!
During class, we'll walk through the techniques for making the football blocks, including creating the strip sets, cutting, piecing, pressing, and assembling your football for your dream team!
Our goal is for everyone to make at least ONE complete football during class so you leave knowing exactly how to continue making the rest of your quilt at home.
IMPORTANT: Starch Before Class!
This pattern uses strip sets, and we believe STARCH IS ESSENTIAL for getting accurate, crisp results.
Please pre-starch and press your fabric BEFORE coming to class. Bring additional starch with you so you can continue using it as you sew.
Our favorites for this project are:
- Magic Quilting & Crafting Spray
- Flatter
We love Best Press for many projects, but Best Press is not quite sturdy enough for this particular technique.
What to Bring
- Sewing machine in good working order
- Power cord and foot pedal
- Machine manual, if you are still learning your machine
- New sewing machine needle installed before class
- Extra sewing machine needles
- ¼" piecing foot for your machine
- Neutral piecing thread
- Extra bobbins
- Rotary cutter with a NEW, SHARP BLADE
- Cutting ruler(s) required for the pattern
- Small ruler for trimming and checking measurements
- Cutting mat, if requested for your workspace
- Fabric scissors
- Small thread snips
- Seam ripper — because we all need one!
- Straight pins and/or quilting clips
- Stiletto, if you like using one
- Fabric marking tool
- Magic Spray or Flatter
- Your PRE-STARCHED and PRESSED fabric
- Football quilt pattern
- Fabric kit or all fabrics required by the pattern
- Extension cord/power strip, if you normally use one with your machine
- Any other basic sewing supplies you like to keep close by
Before You Come to Class
Please:
- Pre-starch all fabric.
- Press fabric flat.
- Install a fresh needle in your sewing machine.
- Put a new blade in your rotary cutter.
- Wind a few bobbins so you're ready to sew!
- Bring your pattern and read through it before class — you don't have to understand everything yet. That's why we're having class!
