Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably Workshops 2024

“Why strive for complicated, difficult to sew arrangements when simple, squares, diamonds and triangles are so
endlessly fascinating as long as the colours are alive.” –Kaffe Fassett

In his lectures and workshops, Kaffe Fassett reveals how he experiences the colours and basic shapes around him, how we can train our own eyes to see this rewarding source of creativity and how we can, just as he does, combine striking fabrics with simple shapes to create our own spectacular quilt designs.
In each workshop, Kaffe & Brandon will teach and mentor each participants own personal colour journey through fabric choice and placement. Everyone will follow the same process of choosing fabrics as Kaffe and Brandon do when they are designing, working on a design wall flannel. The design wall flannel is then rolled up with their quilt, to take home at the end of the day. No sewing takes place during the workshop. No sewing machines needed.

Together, Brandon and Kaffe willteach up to 20 students. Each participantmusthave ample cutting spaceandmore importantly, enough wall space to hang and work on their own 6” by WOF flanneld esign wall. Each workshop is suitable for the beginner (must have rotary cutting skills) and the advanced quilt maker. The only requirement is an eagerness to explore colour.

Workshop Locations:
The Hive Retreat House
704 N. Washington Ave.
Participation Limited to 20 participants Each Day.
Limit of one workshop per person.

Seed Packet Quilt (Workshop Variation) with Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably

Tuesday, October 22nd (9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Globally, Kaffe Fassett fans have enthusiastically embraced his Seed Packet Quilt, and now you can make your own with Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably at Cotton Candy Fabrics on Monday, September 23, 2024. It’s sew much fun to search out bold blooms from your stash and shop for the latest blooms and fruits. Designing and sewing a Seed Packet Quilt is like planting a garden: browsing the catalogs (stash & LQS), planning the lay out and planting the seeds (working with Kaffe and Brandon and cutting the squares) and watching it grow (sewing your squares,) and finally reaping what you have sown/sewn (wrapping yourself up in your new quilt.) No sewing takes place during the workshop. No sewing machines needed.

The original Seed Packet Quilts is sumptuously photographed in Bold Blooms (pages 68, 69, and 147). In addition, Kaffe, Brandon and Liza have recolored Seed Packet twice more to feature fabrics available at the time. The most recent version may be found at FreeSpiritFabrics.com.

Choose your fabrics with an eye for them to create a harmonious arrangement. They should go together well - perhaps most will have a similar background or same level of brightness.

This workshop includes the full day of instruction with Kaffe and Brandon, refreshments and lunch, two yards of Kaffe's Flannel Grid Wall, and a Kaffe Fassett Reducing Glass.
